“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens”
Yes, Maria from The Sound Of Music had it right! There are few things nicer than warm woolen mittens.
Growing up I don’t remember not having a pair of warm woolen mittens knitted by either my Great-Grandmother or by my Great-Aunt Verna. Every time we visited there would be a new pair of mittens.
Their mittens were the warmest and had a twisted cable running up the center. Sometimes it was in the same color, other times there was a contrasting color added, and occasionally there were two colors intertwined dancing up the middle of the mitten.
Although I have not attempted to replicate those mittens and the fascinating cable stitch there is a little girl inside me who loves woolen mittens.
